Description
Asselamo alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatohu,
Sir,
I feel pleasure in presenting to you a brief overview of my book “Justajoo-e-Medina” – an encyclopaedic history of the ‘City of the Prophet ﷺ’, i.e. Medina the Radiant.
Being a resident in Saudi Arabia since 1975, I had seen Medina Munawwara as it used to be in mid-nineteen-seventies. It had still the serenity of the past and the visitor could and did benefit from much of its rich heritage of the Prophetic relics – i.e. the sites directly related to his blessed Seerah. However, with the immense affluence, the holy city suddenly underwent a new make-up and in a matter of two decades its old historic buildings and sites gave way to the towering commercial plazas and deluxe housing complexes. On top of it, the booming hotel industry changed its entire urban appearance. All this had happened in front of my eyes. I used to visit the holy city quite frequently and my extreme love for the city made me think of writing a comprehensive history of this holy city which had the honour to be the platform upon which took place most of major events of the blessed life of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that future generations and, especially, the researchers and historians find in a compact volume all that it has been through since it was first founded on that blessed piece of land then called Yathrib.
The Emigration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to this small city took it out of oblivion into the limelight of history and raised it to the pinnacles of fame and name making it sacred second only to the House of Allah at Makkah. Visit to Medina has always been a dream of every fervent Muslim whose hearts throb with its ups and downs and eyes yearn to have a look at the city which was so much loved by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said: I love this piece of land so much that I pray to Almighty Allah to make it my eternal resting place’ and so did it happen.
